How do I
switch my domain's nameservers and IP addresses?
It depends on which domain registrar you signed up your domain with. Most
registrars allow you to do changes yourself via their online control
panels:
Here are our nameservers and IP addresses you should switch to:
ns1.updnnetwork.net (216.98.150.25)
ns2.updnnetwork.net (216.122.4.133)
* Please note that you use the
above nameservers only if you are using our DNS Station Control services.
UPOINT's web hosting customers please refer to the hosting FAQ for another
set of nameservers.

Are
your nameservers and IP addresses accepted by all domain registrars?
Our nameservers are registered perfectly. This includes
direct and reverse DNS:
$NSLOOKUP
ns1.updnnetwork.net gives 216.98.150.25
$NSLOOKUP ns2.updnnetwork.net gives
216.122.4.133
$NSLOOKUP 216.98.150.25 gives
ns1.updnnetwork.net
$NSLOOKUP 216.122.4.133 gives
ns2.updnnetwork.net
Our nameservers and IP addresses
are accepted by all domain registrars worldwide. You may use our DNS Station Control for any type of domains such as .com, .net, .org, .cc, .jp, .de, .co.uk, .com.my, .net.nz, .co.th
and so on.
For your information, some registrars rejects domain application or
transfer if reverse DNS is not properly registered (they would carry out
the NSLOOKUP before approving the domain transfer or registration and
probe our server to see if your domain has been setup here). However, most of the
registrars (including NetworkSolutions.com) do not have such stringent
requirement. For this reason, it is recommended that you sign-up the DNS
Station Control before you transfer or register your domain.

How reliable is your server?
DNS Station Control seldom experienced DNS, web or email outage in its history. Even still, we are planning improvements to our network that should make
DNS Station Control the most robust DNS provider on the internet.
We run monitoring scripts on all of our servers, tracking CPU utilization, traffic, and response time.
In the event of an outage, the DNS system automatically fails over to another network - without losing a single query.

How much does it cost? Any
limit?
We charge only US$14 per year per domain per 200 Mb of usage. Usually DNS hits are cached, so even the busiest sites won't go over the 200 MB limit. 200 MB should get you about 1,000,000 DNS queries. A typical site uses 5 MB per year of DNS bandwidth.
If you operate a giant site and exceed the limit, simply made additional
payment.

Must I host my site with you
or register a domain with you?
You do not need to host with us or register your domain with us.
However, you must own a domain.

What is DNS?
DNS is the technology that ties
text-based domain names to the numeric IP Addresses that are
necessary to locate the domain's server on the net.

My
site is currently hosted on an ISP's server.
But I would like to have multiple sub-domains. I would also want to use
the email services provided by
Everyone.net .
Can I use the DNS Station Control to achieve these?
These are the most common uses of DNS Station Control. You can do it
if the following two conditions are met:
1) Your hosting account must come with an IP address.
2) The nameservers of your domain are changed to ours as stated above.
Just state your IP address under
the "IP Forwards" section. Then under the "Mail
Server" section, state the mail server assigned by the email services
ISP (remember to delete EVERYTHING under the "Mail Forwards"
section). After that, go to the "Web Forwards" section and
create the sub-domains.

How can I direct multiple
domain names to one IP address?
In most cases (depending on your hosting ISP's configuration), you can set up as many domains as you want pointing to the same IP Address using DNS, just keep adding
domains to your DNS Station Control, and setting the IP addresses.

What is an "A"
record (IP Forward)?
An "A" record, also called an "address" record, ties a domain name to an IP address. If there is a server on the internet that is configured to handle traffic for this domain, you can enter the name of the domain (like
"www.upoint.info") and the IP address of the server (like
"208.56.75.199"), and almost immediately, anyone surfing to that domain connects to the correct server.

What is an "MX" record?
"MX" ("Mail eXchanger") records are used to specify what server on the internet is running
email software that is configured to handle email for your domain. If you want your ISP to handle routing the
email for your domain to you, you need to specify the domain name or IP address of your ISP's mail server. In addition, you can specify the rank of each mail server when you have more than one. Make sure your ISP knows that you're using their servers to route your domain's email, or all your
email will "return to sender"!
If you want to use our servers instead of your ISP's, don't specify any "MX" records, just configure our simple MailForward service!
If you are using the hotmail-like
service of
Everone.net, you
need to setup the MX record so that all the emails are handled as intended (further instruction in the Mail Server setup page). The mentioned two companies help you to offer your domain-based email addresses (like john@yourdomain.com) to your visitors.

What is a "CNAME" record?
"CNAME" records, short for "Canonical Name", create an alias from a domain name to another. You could create an alias from "yahoo.mydomain.com" to "www.yahoo.com", and every reference to "yahoo.mydomain.com" would go to the other location, regardless how yahoo changed their IP addresses! Be careful, however; CNAMEs won't work everywhere. If you create an MX record, and the name used for the mail server was defined using a CNAME, you might lose
email!

What is a
WebForward?
A WebForward creates a hidden "A" record pointing to our web server. When our web server gets a request for your site from a visitor, our web server is designed to forward the visitor to the URL that you configured.
| Top |
What is Cloaking?
Cloaking is a special kind of WebForward. Just like a WebForward, cloaking creates a hidden "A" record pointing to our web server. However, when our web server gets a request for your site from a visitor, not only does our web server forward the visitor to the URL of your choosing, but an invisible frame is used to hide the destination URL. Your domain name stays in the location bar of your visitor's browser, thus "cloaking" the destination URL.

What is a MailForward?
A MailForward creates a hidden "MX" record pointing to our email server. When we receive an email on your behalf, our email server is designed to forward the email to the address that you configured.
Expert tip: If you use "*" for the new email address (or just leave it blank), then all email going to your domain will get sent to the destination address, if it doesn't match another email address you've explicitly specified. Also, specifying the same new email address twice with different destinations will cause a copy of the email to get sent to both destinations!

How do I create a default MailForward for my domain?
If you use "*" for the new email address (or just leave it blank), then all email going to your domain will get sent to the destination address, if it doesn't match another email address you've explicitly specified.

How do I MailForward the same mailbox to multiple recipients?
Specifying the same new email address twice with different destinations will cause a copy of the email to get sent to both destinations.

How
soon will the changes be updated?
All changes that you make at the DNS Station Control are updated
instantly. However, it takes 1 minute ~ 3 hours to become effective -
depending on the cache effect of the Internet.

Does
DNS Station Control support round-robin DNS?
We sure do! Simply create 2 "A" records with the same domain name and different IP addresses, and your visitors will be load balanced between the two servers. Please see the "Most common uses" section for details.

How do I enable secondary, backup or slave DNS service?
Our secondary DNS servers will pull DNS information from your primaries.
In the Control Panel, on the Main page, click 'Advanced'. On that screen you should see a 'Make Slave Zone' link. Clicking on this link will disable the regular control panel, and will allow you to enter the IP address of the master server.
